Durio, McGoffin, Stagg & Ackermann has been a mainstay of the south Louisiana legal community for over 20 years, but the roots of our firm run deeper than our two-plus decades together and stretch beyond our home in Lafayette. Buzz Durio, Gary McGoffin and Bill Stagg formed Durio, McGoffin & Stagg in 1985, but they first met in the late 1960's as Boy Scout summer camp counselors. Each was an Eagle Scout, and although they took different paths from the Camp Thistlethwaite staff to the practice of law, the friendship and mutual trust they developed for one another there has served as a guiding force in the firm's professional growth and evolution.
Jeff Ackermann began as an associate in 1985 and became a partner in 1990. The firm's name was changed to Durio, McGoffin, Stagg & Ackermann in 2002. Jim Shelton joined our firm as "of counsel" before being made partner in 2003. With the addition of Robert Broussard and Randy Guidry as partners, we now have seven partners and four associates.
Our firm's focus has always included business and personal matters such as corporate, small business, professional liability, and general civil litigation. Over time, our practice has evolved to include bankruptcy and creditor's rights, healthcare defense and counseling, intellectual property, personal injury, family law, real estate development, construction law, and estate planning and successions, to name a few.
We have earned a reputation for solid commitment to our clients, our community and our families. And our clients know that we provide them our best effort in serving their legal needs.
